Accessibility Statement
Learn About Pearls aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, so that everyone can read and use every page, including with a keyboard, a screen reader or zoom.
How the site is built#
- Every page has one main heading, headings in order, and a link that skips straight to the content.
- Every photo has a written description, and every diagram has a text version under it.
- Tables have headers and captions, and every form field you fill in has a label.
- Pages follow your system’s light or dark setting, with a switch to change it, and animations stop if your system asks for reduced motion.
- Pages work without JavaScript. The tools show all their information as tables and lists, and the forms still send.
How the site is tested#
- Each time the site is built, an automated checker reviews every page for these points, among many others.
- On every update, axe, an automated accessibility checker, tests one page of each kind against the WCAG 2.2 AA rules, in light and dark mode.
- Browser tests open the pages with JavaScript on and off, and check that the tools and forms work both ways.
What isn’t covered yet#
Automated checks find many problems, but not all of them, and the site hasn’t yet been tested by people who use assistive technology every day. Some images are old paintings and archive photos. Their captions and descriptions say what they show, but small details may be hard to see.
Report a problem#
If something on Learn About Pearls is hard to use, please tell us through the contact page, with the page’s address and what went wrong.
